Our Story

Earth, fire, and the quiet joy of making

Ewe & Kiln began with a simple belief: that the objects we live with should carry the warmth of human hands. Every mug, bowl, and plate starts as raw clay — humble, formless, waiting.

Each piece is thrown on the wheel, trimmed by hand, and glazed with colors inspired by the natural world — forest greens, soft fleeces, creamy morning light. Nothing is mass-produced. Nothing is rushed.

The kiln does its slow work over many hours, transforming soft clay into something durable, something meant to be held every day. Some pieces emerge exactly as planned. Others surprise us — glazes that shift in unexpected ways, textures that tell their own story.

"Pottery is a conversation between maker, material, and fire. We just guide the dialogue."

The name? A nod to our two constant companions: the ewes who graze the pasture below the studio, and the kiln that brings each piece to life. Small batch. Slow fired. Ewe-approved.

From Clay to Cup

01

Wedging & Centering

Clay is wedged to remove air bubbles, then centered on the wheel — the foundation of every piece.

02

Throwing

Each piece is hand-thrown on the wheel, shaped with intention and trimmed to refine the form.

03

Glazing

Natural glazes are applied by hand — layers of color that will melt and shift in the kiln.

04

Firing

Slow firing over 12+ hours transforms clay into ceramic, glazes into glass, potential into permanence.
